JEDDAH, 9 April 2007 — A Pakistan Navy ship PNS PAIMA arrived at the Jeddah Islamic Port on a seven-day goodwill mission.

Talking to newsmen on Saturday night the commanding officer of the ship, Capt. Mohammad Arshad said the ship had 14 officers and a 184-member crew.

From Muscat, the ship sailed to Saudi Arabia where it will conduct a hydrographic survey of the Jeddah waters from today, said the commanding officer. The survey report will be submitted to the Royal Saudi Navy after two days. Capt. Arshad told journalists PNS PAIMA is a hydrographic-cum oceanographic survey vessel.

The hydrographic systems are replaced from time to time and upgraded. The ship, since induction, has carried out extensive survey operations at different scales.

The ship has also conducted dredging surveys, wreck search, north markings, tidal data collections and detached surveys. The commanding officer of the ship hosted a dinner in honor of the consuls general of Pakistan, Bangladesh, China and Indonesia on Saturday.

High-ranking officials from the Royal Saudi Navy, journalists and members of Pakistani community attended the event. The ship will sail to Pakistan on April 14.

Consular Teamto Visit Taif

JEDDAH, 9 April 2007 — A consular team of the Consulate General of India, Jeddah will visit Taif on April 12. The team will stay at Hotel Al-Barraq, Taif (02-7360610). It will receive applications for consular services from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and deliver the processed documents on April 13 between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.

Medical Camp Organized

RIYADH, 9 April 2007 — There is a growing incidence of diseases like gastritis, diabetes and hypertension among the industrial workers, according to a team of doctors which participated in a medical camp organized by Telugu Kalaakshetram, a Riyadh-based philanthropic-cum-cultural organization. The doctors, who were drawn from various specialties, including pharmacists and male nurses, examined about 800 patients. Those suffering from hypertension and diabetes were given medicines free of cost. According to the organization’s President, Venu Madhav, they look forward to conduct more such camps in the future.

Workshop for Teenage Girls
