ABHA, 10 April 2007 — The eighth annual seminar about health in schools kicked off under the support of Asir Governor Prince Khaled Al-Faisal here on Sunday.
Minister of Education Abdullah Al-Obaid and Deputy Minister of Education Prince Khaled Al-Muqren were among the dignitaries who attended the seminar, entitled “Enhancing Medicine — Cooperation for Better Health.”
Ali ibn Musa, dean of the Girls’ Education Department in Asir, praised the government’s efforts to increase the level of education in the Asir region, which is located in the southwestern part of the Kingdom.
The dean explained how 30 years ago, there were only a handful of schools in the region. Now there are over 3,800 schools with 800,000 pupils of both genders, and over 15 universities and colleges operating in Asir.
Dr. Sulaiman Al-Shihri said that the Saudi government is greatly concerned with the improvement and development of the health sector.
He added that the aim of the seminar is to initiate cooperation between the heath sector and the education sector to increase the general level of health among Saudi citizens.
Education Minister Al-Obaid expressed appreciation for the government’s efforts and added that more needs to be done to provide health security to people employed in the education sector.
