ISLAMABAD, 14 January 2008 — Kidnappers yesterday freed pop singer Ali Zafar after his family reportedly paid a ransom of 2.5 million rupees ($40,400).

Ali Zafar was kidnapped on the night of Jan. 6 while shopping for CDs in Lahore’s Defense Housing Society. His captors later called the family to demand a ransom and threatened to kill him in the event of nonpayment.

The kidnappers dropped off the singer blindfolded at Chauburji yesterday morning.

Ali Zaafar is popular in the Subcontinent for his pop songs and cell phone ads.
