MAKKAH, 17 January 2008 — A passerby heard two men in a loud and animated argument over the best place to hide a bunch of mobile phones they had recently stolen. The citizen then whipped out his own phone and promptly informed authorities, according to a report in the local press. Police arrived and arrested the two men. As they were being led to the police car, one of the stolen phones rang. An officer answered to hear the owner on the line, who assumed he was talking to the crook, to please return the phone for a financial reward. The police calmed the man’s nerves and eventually the phone was returned to him.
