JEDDAH, 17 January 2008 — A man seeking to sell one of his organs approached a hospital in Jeddah and then, according to local media, threatened to kill himself when the staff of the hospital (which was not named in the reports) pointed out that selling organs is both illegal in the broad sense and haram in Islam. Unaffected by this reasoning, the man ran to the hospital cafeteria, got a knife and threatened to stab himself to death.
Apparently the man had second thoughts and fled the scene as police were arriving. He was apprehended later and sent for psychological observation and suicide watch.
