Filipino Welfare Officer Killed in Accident Laid to Rest

RIYADH, 24 January 2008 — Leonardo Eugenio Jr., the Filipino welfare officer who died in an accident in the Kingdom last month, has finally been laid to rest, the Philippine Embassy said.

Eugenio was buried at the Manila Memorial Park in Dasmariñas, Cavite province, south of Manila, on Tuesday, Ambassador Antonio P. Villamor said.

Villamor and the embassy staff handed over financial assistance to Eugenio’s mother, Josefa Sibal, and sister Raquel Shimizu before the officer’s body was flown to Manila last week.

Eugenio and four of his colleagues in the embassy’s labor office were motoring to Sakaka City on Dec. 27 when their car overturned along the highway in Hafr Al-Batin, north of Riyadh.

Eugenio, who suffered multiple fractures in his skull, lapsed into a coma and died on Jan. 9.
