DUBAI, 29 January 2008 — Amr Diab, Ustad Zakir Hussain and other top musicians will perform in Dubai on Friday (Feb. 1) as part of Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) that began last Thursday.
Tabla maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain will perform at the Dubai Tennis Stadium in Aviation Club and Arabic singing sensation Amr Diab will perform at the Megabowl in area A at Dubai’s Zabeel Park
Ustad Zakir Hussain’s concert, titled Nirvana, or ‘the highest state of happiness” will also feature renowned drummer Vinnie Colaiuta, Banjo player Bela Fleck, bassist Edgar Meyer, Kanjira master V. SelvaGanesh, sitarist Niladari Kumar, and percussionist Taufiq Qureshi in a perfect rendition of ‘East meets West’ music.
Ustad Zakir Hussain, known for his fast-paced beats and combination of multiple rhythms, has won numerous international awards and shares the same platform as his father, the legendary Ustad Alla Rakha Khan, regarded as the greatest tabla player of the 20th century.
Yousif Mubarak, DSF Events, operations, and logistics director said, “Hosting an artist of the caliber of Ustad Zakir Hussain is by itself an indication of the quality events that DSF organizes for its visitors.”
Suhaila Gobash, DSF Events Manager said, “Amr Diab has a huge fan base in Dubai and after the success of his concert last year, we thought it was only natural to organize another show this year.”
Amr Diab’s latest album, released in July 2007, has taken off hugely in the region and the singer is elated over his upcoming performance in Dubai.
