DAMMAM, 1 March 2008 — A recent study has found that 66.3 percent of educated women in Saudi Arabia are unemployed. The study was released in a seminar held in the sidelines of a three-day job fair for women in the province organized by the Prince Sultan Center for Sciences and Technology recently. The report was skeptical about the possibility of any improvement in the employment situation for Saudi women in the coming years.
Nada Al-Hamoud of the Prince Sultan Center said that Saudi society has not succeeded in tackling the issue of preparing women to suit the demands of the Kingdom’s job market despite several achievements made in the field of human resources development, according to business daily Al-Eqtisadiah.
“The job fair, the first of its kind in the region, aims at catering to the needs of women who seek to get qualified in their search for jobs,” Hamoud said. The center has sought to train unemployed women in such a way that they are qualified to meet the job requirements in the country, she added.
