DHAKA, 3 March 2008 — Interpol has offered to help Bangladesh bring back crime suspects from India and other countries if Dhaka has extradition treaties with those states.
Interpol’s Secretary-General Ronald K. Noble said in Dhaka yesterday his organization could provide Bangladesh with a list of criminals and their details, including addresses, passport numbers and fingerprints. Speaking to reporters after arriving in Dhaka, the Interpol chief said his organization had a list of 12,000 suspected criminals from all over the world. Asked if there was any Bangladeshi on the list, Noble said he was not aware of that.
Noble parried a question whether local militants had links with Al-Qaeda. He also refused to comment on the Aug. 21, 2004, grenade attack on an Awami League rally that had targeted party chief Hasina Wajed.
