JEDDAH, 3 March 2008 — Novel International School has been granted the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) affiliation. The school, which has 250 students and 25 teachers, was established Sept. 10, 2006, with a vision to impart education to the expatriate community. Currently it has classes ranging from nursery to grade eight with Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, Malayalam and French as optional languages.
“We are introducing grade nine from April 5,” Principal K.M. Mohammed said yesterday. Tamil will be included in the list of optional languages from the beginning of the new academic year, he said, adding that the school has students from Egyptian, Bangladeshi, Jordanian, Pakistani, Palestinian, Philippine, Sri Lankan, Yemeni, British and Indian communities. The school conducts special coaching and foundation classes for English and maths every Sunday and Tuesday. It conducts extra-curricular activities including yoga, martial arts, music and arts.
The school’s smart card system enables it to notify parents via SMS on the status of their children arriving and leaving the premises. The classes are fitted with web cams so that parents can view their children online. Its seven air-conditioned vehicles cover all areas of the city. The parents also have an easy access in contacting the subject teachers.
