RIYADH, 12 March 2008 — Gov. Prince Salman yesterday launched a website (www.alriyadh.gov.sa) displaying prices of foodstuffs and other essential commodities in Riyadh as part of the governorate’s efforts to enlighten the public on market situation.
Prince Salman urged businessmen and suppliers to make available essential commodities for citizens and residents at reasonable prices. “Don’t charge exorbitant prices if you want to get the blessings of God in your business,” he told traders.
The newly appointed Minister of Commerce and Industry Abdullah Zainal Alireza was present at the function in addition to Riyadh Mayor Dr. Abdul Aziz Al-Muqrin and members of the economic committee at the Shoura Council.
The participants hoped that the price index on the Internet would play a big role in controlling prices as supermarkets and suppliers would compete with one another to offer products at reasonable prices. Alireza has said that he would present a plan to reduce the prices of consumer goods and control inflation to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah.
