JEDDAH, 17 March 2008 — A career festival will be held here on March 28 with a variety of informative programs for the benefit of Indian secondary and higher secondary school students, parents and executives.
The one-day event is organized by the Center for Information & Guidance India (CIGI) at Dauhat Al-Uloom International School on Sahafa Street in Azizia.
“We expect more than 500 participants,” said P.M. Ameer Ali, president of CIGI’s Jeddah chapter. “All Indian students and parents are welcome to the program,” he told reporters. The program will begin at 2 p.m. and end at 7 p.m.
Besides providing career information and counseling to students of Class VIII to Class XII, there will be sessions on “remote-parenting” for expatriate workers whose children study in India. Experts will provide counseling on six vital streams: medicine, engineering, civil service, information technology, finance and media/journalism.
K. Mohammed Mustafa, chief coordinator, said leading local and international educational institutions would participate in the fest to inform visitors about their educational programs.
Mustafa spoke about the remarkable achievements made by CIGI within a short span of 10 years. “As a result of CIGI’s work secondary school exam result in Kerala’s Malappuram district rose from 35 to 72 percent.” Malappuram had in the past the lowest result in the state.
He said CIGI was instrumental in creating awareness among parents, especially Muslims, about the importance of career guidance. “Ever since its formation, CIGI has been receiving tremendous public support,” he said. CIGI has now nine chapters in the Gulf including three in Saudi Arabia. It conducts an annual camp named Expa Scan for NRI students in Kerala including educational, career guidance, personality development and entertainment programs. A similar camp is also held for children of expatriates studying in Kerala.
“We also conduct aptitude tests for students in a scientific manner, which is essential for them to select their future academic courses and careers,” Mustafa said. Based in Calicut, CIGI has offices in almost all districts of Kerala.
