RIYADH, 18 March 2008 — In a series of operations in the Kingdom’s capital city, 52 men were arrested recently on suspicion of being involved in a criminal gang.

“The gang members lived in the Kingdom illegally without valid residential papers and all of them hail from African countries,” a spokesman of Riyadh police said. “The arrests followed several days of surveillance laid out by the police detectives in the Manfuha district of Riyadh.

The spokesman also said that arms and cash were seized from the locations of the arrests.

Of late, the local police have intensified patrolling on the roads of the capital city, but the crimes like daytime robberies, attacks, car thefts and purse-snatchings still go unabated.
