RIYADH, 23 March 2008 — Prince Faisal bin Salman, chairman of the Charitable Society for the Care of Orphans (Insan), yesterday signed a SR22 million contract to establish the “Insan Village” for orphans with special needs. The initiative has been launched to provide orphans with a homely atmosphere. Located in the capital’s Alisha district, the village will include 12 villas, an administrative building, playgrounds for children, a library, a swimming pool and a hall for computer games.
Cop Injured as Train Hits Car
DAMMAM, 23 March 2008 — A policeman was injured when his car struck a Riyadh-bound train at Kilo 106 on Friday, the Saudi Railway Organization (SRO) reported yesterday. The accident occurred shortly after the train left the Abqaiq station, 60 km southwest of Dammam. “The injuries to the driver, who was admitted to a hospital, are not critical,” said the railway official. No other injuries were reported. The train resumed its journey after the accident was investigated. The official said the SRO lately completed a fencing project. (Faiz Al-Mazrouei)
SR42,000 Stolen From Employer
MAKKAH, 23 March 2008 — Police arrested an Arab national suspected of stealing about SR42,000 from his employer, the owner of an electrical equipment store. The worker, whose nationality was not provided by police, was working as an accountant. The employer complained to police after noticing a discrepancy in the books. Police arrested the man. The employer said he was willing to drop charges if the employee could come up with at least half of the missing sum. (Ali Hawash)
