DUBAI, 31 March 2008 — Talk about over the top spending! An auction of vanity license plate numbers raked in a record SR41 million recently. The highest selling number plates — 43 and 61 — sold for SR2.3 million respectively. The 56th Distinguished Number Plates Auction saw fierce bidding up to the last minute for a limited number of special number plates. Number plate G78 went for SR2.2 million, then came number plate F89, which went for SR2 million. Three-digit number plates — 200, 300, 800 and 900 — also garnered the interest of bidders. 200 went for SR1.2 million, followed by 800 which sold for SR990,000, 300 for SR970,000 and 900 which sold for SR930,000.
