JEDDAH, 9 April 2008 — Interior Minister Prince Naif yesterday urged everybody to cooperate in the Kingdom's fight against drugs. "Drugs are more dangerous than wars and catastrophes," the Saudi Press Agency quoted the prince as saying.
Speaking to reporters after presiding over a meeting of the National Committee to Combat Drugs in Riyadh, Prince Naif said security officers had confiscated millions of narcotic tablets, adding that more than 400 policemen had lost their lives during anti-drug campaigns.
"Most of the terror suspects held by the police were on drugs," the minister said. "We need everybody's cooperation in this ongoing fight, as drugs are a major threat to the country," he added.
Prince Naif commended the committee's efforts to stop drug smuggling and trafficking. "It has proved its ability in confronting this danger," he added. "We have urged the Ministry of Education to monitor students in order to protect them from this evil," he added.
