RIYADH, 15 April 2008 — New Sri Lankan Ambassador Abdul Ajeed Mohammed Marleen has directed the Sri Lankan International School in Jeddah to hold a special meeting to elect officebearers for its board of management.

Members of the present board, which was elected in 2004, ended their tenure in June 2007 and have been waiting for the arrival of the new ambassador to elect a new board at a parents’ general meeting. Outgoing board members include Azmy Anverdeen, M.H.M. Jiffry, Asoka Jayantha and Zahran Aboosahid.

“I have issued this directive following my consultations with the Supervisor of Foreign Schools Mueidh Al-Qahtani, who said that the ambassador has the power to nominate or make arrangements to elect the members of the board,” Marleen said. He added that he opted for an election, which would help parents elect their own representatives to manage the school.
