MAKKAH, 16 April 2008 — Security officers in Makkah were successful yesterday in preventing a 50-year-old mentally deranged Saudi man from committing suicide after he had threatened to jump from a four-story building in the Jarwal area of the city.
The man’s brother had called in the Red Crescent Society to provide him with necessary health care. But the man locked up two first-aid workers and his brother and threatened to kill them.
The three managed to escape and sought help from police patrol and the Civil Defense. When the man saw police, he threatened to jump from their third floor apartment. After taking necessary precautions, police broke into the house and overpowered the man. He has been admitted to Al-Zahir Hospital.
