MAKKAH, 17 April 2008 — The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice found in the Grand Mosque a young girl who had escaped from her family in Riyadh. Commission members suspected that something was amiss when they found a number of young men flirting with the girl who was alone.

When the commission members questioned the boys they said that girl had been hanging around the area for a long time and that they were trying to offer her help.

When questioned the girl confessed that she ran away from her family in the company of a young man from Makkah, but he abandoned her in the mosque. She found no place to stay, so decided to sleep in the women’s section of the mosque. The girl was taken to the juvenile detention center.
