JEDDAH, 20 April 2008 — Saudi drug enforcement agents arrested members of an international drug gang trying to smuggle 65,000 Captagon tablets across King Fahd Causeway from Bahrain.
Maj. Ibrahim Abu Haleel, official spokesman of the Drug Combating Department (DCD), said police made the arrests following a tip-off about the cargo. The officers also arrested the person who was supposed to receive the consignment.
Meanwhile, anti-drug officers in Jeddah arrested two drug traffickers in a car. When the two men saw police following them, they threw out 84 kilograms of hashish, said Abu Haleel.
“We have arrested all those who have involved in drug smuggling and trafficking, and have transferred their cases to the concerned authorities to take necessary action after completing investigations,” Abu Haleel said.
Meanwhile, Jeddah police have arrested 1,114 overstayers and violators of residency and labor regulations, Col. Misfar Al-Juaid, spokesman of Jeddah police told Arab News. He said those arrested included people having different nationalities. Police also found 16 stolen cars in Al-Khamra.
