YANBU, 20 April 2008 — A number of Bangladeshi laborers have gone on strike in protest against nonpayment of their wages over the past several months at a construction site in Yanbu.

The 25 laborers working for a contracting company charged that a Pakistani labor supplier, who had received the wages including the arrears on their behalf, refused to pay them their dues exceeding a total SR112,500.

The workers complained to the local police that the man was attempting to run away with their money. The police have detained the labor supplier and are exploring ways to settle the dispute amicably, a police source said.
