YANBU, 20 April 2008 — Police are looking for the cause of the death of a 90-year-old Saudi whose body was found in the desert about 130 kilometers from Yanbu.
Shepherds found the corpse when they were out looking for a lost camel. The dead man was a native of Yaqni village, police sources said. He did not have any relatives and seldom appeared at any social occasions, the villagers said. He used to roam about in deserts and came home rarely, according to the villagers.
Police found the man’s walking stick and a small bag beside the body. There was no sign of violence to suggest that he was murdered.
The absence of a water bottle among his belongings suggested that the man might have died of thirst. Another possibility is snakebite or scorpion sting. However, the police are waiting for the coroner’s report.
