ISLAMABAD, 28 April 2008 — Pakistani Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani assured the nation yesterday that the new government would honor the coalition's commitment of reinstating judges sacked by President Pervez Musharraf within 30 days of coming to power. The coalition completes 30 days on Wednesday.
Gilani was addressing a massive rally in Mianwali organized by the head of Tehrik-e-Insaf party and former cricket star Imran Khan who launched the Pakistan chapter of Bradford University. Gilani said that although Khan did not contest the Feb. 18 election, "we consider him an important player in the democratic process as he is a member of All Party Democratic Alliance."
Earlier, the prime minister opened a state-of-the art cardiac care and trauma center at the district headquarters hospital. The trauma center, completed at a cost of 5.813 million rupees in six months, will treat trauma patients through modern medical and surgical facilities.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, the prime minister said he was happy to open the trauma center at the district hospital, which in turn was opened by his father Makhdoom Almamdar Hussain Gilani in 1955. The elder Gilani was the health minister of the Punjab province at the time.
He announced a grant of 35 million rupees for the expansion of the hospital and said the present government was committed to provide the best medical and health facilities to the public.
The prime minister also said Sui gas would be provided to the district's Piplan area and that he would talk to the provincial government for opening postgraduate classes in the Mianwali Girl's Degree College.
He said the government's priorities include strengthening the country in industrial, agricultural and defense fields. Gilani said social justice and the rule of law were prerequisite to ensuring unhindered development. The prime minister promised the local people jobs in the Chashma power project.
