JEDDAH, 3 May 2008 — Samsung Electronics and its local distributors said over the weekend that while they were regularly conducting local surveys, they would consider locating an assembly plant in the region as a future possibility.
“Right now, we are not prepared for locating an assembly plant anywhere in the Gulf, but we will consider this as a future possibility,” a local spokesman for the visiting Samsung engineers said. “We have been however upgrading our service centers and conducting regular surveys in the Kingdom and elsewhere in the Gulf to get a feedback on our products and expectations of the user community,” Ismai Sharkawi, service manager at the Technical Service Maintenance Company Ltd., a subsidiary of United Matbouli Group, told Arab News at a farewell reception to two of the visiting Samsung engineers.
During their week long tour of Riyadh and Jeddah, the engineers participated in a free service campaign. Young Jin-lee, manager, electronics service, and his associate Vun Ki-bae toured various locations providing guidance on the use and maintenance of their electronics goods and home appliances. “We are on a special mission, took part in our free service campaign and also trained local technicians,” Lee said.
