ISLAMABAD, 28 May 2008 — Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani said yesterday that Pakistan’s relations with Saudi Arabia are based on the strong foundation of Islam and are time tested.
He was speaking at the inauguration of a new Saudi Embassy complex here.
Gilani said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had always had the best of relations and their friendship had grown in time like a strong tree. “The two countries are strongly linked with the bond of Islam and history and their relations have moved from strength to strength.”
He said Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah has proved a friend indeed for Pakistan at all times. The prime minister recalled that during the devastating earthquake of 2005, King Abdullah personally ensured uninterrupted assistance for the rehabilitation of the affected people and provided enormous support to Pakistan.
He said the two countries were closely engaged in bilateral trade and commerce and wished to further promote their relations.
Speaking on the occasion, Ambassador Ali Awadh Asiri said: “Pakistan is our second home.”
