JEDDAH, 30 May 2008 — Pakistan Repatriation Council celebrated “Youme Takbeer” to mark the 10th anniversary of Pakistan’s nuclear deterrence, at a meeting held here on Wednesday night. Writer Sarwat Jamal Asmai was the chief guest at the event. The meeting urged the Pakistani government to establish a nuclear research institute for peaceful purposes under the leadership of Abdul Qadeer Khan. It should explore all nuclear resources for generating electricity. “We appreciate Bangladesh judiciary for giving the opportunity of settlement to those born after 1971. This will at least entitle them to human treatment, which Bangladesh failed to offer in the past 37 years,” the meeting resolved.
It also urged Pakistan’s President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Yusaf Raza Gilani to activate the Rabita Trust that was frozen in October 2001 and restart the process of repatriation. The meeting suggested that organizations such as Ansar Burney and Eidhi Trust look after food, medical and other essential needs of the stranded Pakistanis in the camps.
“The Organization of the Islamic Conference should include in its agenda the issue of settlement of the stranded Pakistanis,” the meeting said. Asmai urged PRC to use all its resources in persuading the new Pakistani government to take serious measures to resolve the issue of stranded Pakistanis.
