PUNE, India, 1 June 2008 — Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony fainted during a passing out parade of the National Defense Academy at the Pune suburb of Khadakvasla yesterday morning. He was taken to the Military Command Hospital here, where doctors said his condition was stable.
Antony was admitted to the hospital and doctors have advised him complete rest for a couple of days.
Antony was taking the salutes of 312 cadets who were passing out of the NDA when the incident occurred. While shaking hands with a cadet, Antony felt dizzy and collapsed. He was helped out by aides and the parade continued uninterrupted.
Doctors at the hospital said Antony had fainted due to lack of rest and work pressure. The minister arrived in New Delhi on Thursday night from Germany. He flew to Pune early yesterday morning to attend the parade.
