JEDDAH, 3 June 2008 — Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, chairman of Kingdom Holding Company (KHC), has been honored with Special Award for Philanthropy by Arabian Business.
Ahmad Altobaishi, executive assistant to Prince Alwaleed, received the award on his behalf at the Arabian Business Saudi Achievement Awards 2008 that was held at the Four Seasons Hotel on May 25. Walid Al-Akawi, CEO of Arabian Business (ITP), presented the award in the presence of a large number of dignitaries, businessmen and media people.
The award has been given in recognition of Prince Alwaleed’s active philanthropic work through Kingdom Foundation. The foundation that is chaired by the prince has funded many cultural, educational and philanthropic projects globally including a £16 million endowment to create two new research centers for Islamic studies at the University of Cambridge and the University of Edinburgh.
Earlier this year, Institutional Investor magazine listed Prince Alwaleed on its first-ever ranking of the most-powerful figures in finance, Arabian Business magazine ranked Prince Alwaleed number one on the list of the World’s Most Influential Arabs and also ranked Prince Alwaleed number one on the list of 50 Wealthiest Arabs and the Arabic edition of Forbes magazine ranked him number one on the list of Wealthiest Arabs in the World. Last year, Forbes magazine ranked Prince Alwaleed number one on the Middle East’s 20 Richest People List.
