JEDDAH, 9 June 2008 — A national workshop on sustainable development will start at the headquarters of the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment in Jeddah today.

The three-day workshop, held under the sponsorship of PME President Prince Turki ibn Nasser aims to formulate an environmental and sustainable development index in addition to establishing a mechanism of execution.

The index is going to be the foundation of environment and sustainable development in the Kingdom for years to come, said Samir Ghazi, vice president of the PME. The presidency is organizing the workshop in coordination with the United Nations Environmental Program.

Representatives from all ministries, government agencies and the private sector are to take part in the workshop, said Hussain Al-Qahtani, PME spokesman.
