Fast Computing for MIDs
From Nvidia (www.nvidia.co.uk) comes the Tegra, a low power consuming chip that uses an ARM 11 central processing unit core as the main electronic brain and includes system memory, a media processor, a graphics processing unit and direct support for peripherals. It will compete against other recently announced chips such as Intel’s Atom and Via’s Nano.
Tegra chips are designed to be incorporated in mobile Internet devices (MIDs). The goal is to use these chips to create mobile devices that can be used for days on a single charge, yet have the web, high definition media and computing experiences people expect from a PC. The company claims that Tegra chips will make devices capable of playback for 130 hours of audio, or 30 hours of HD video before recharging.
RFID Underwear Tracking
A Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) tag is an object that can be applied to or incorporated into a product, animal, or person for the purpose of identification using radio waves. Library books, luggage and cows are just a few of the items currently identified and tracked with RFID tags.
Now, it’s goodbye to laundry markers and iron on labels. TAGSYS has developed a small, white RFID “button” which can be sewn discretely onto underwear or other clothing. The RFID button is targeted at boarding schools or rehabilitation facilities, which launder personal items of clothing. The RFID button is combined with tracking software that enables the tagged clothing to be tracked throughout the laundering process until the personal garments are returned to the correct individuals. The buttons are designed to survive more than 200 laundering cycles.
