ONAIZA: Residents in Onaiza were up in arms after builders working on the construction of a road discovered bones initially thought to be human remains, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday. At the proposal stage of the project it was discovered that the planned road ran across the Bab Al-Khala Cemetery. The municipality consulted prominent locals who gave assurances that the concerned part of the graveyard was empty. However, the discovery of the bones created unrest among locals. The remains were sent for tests at King Saud Hospital, where experts revealed that they were animal bones and not human.
Hitchhiker robs motorist
JIZAN: A man in his 30s was stabbed and his Toyota Camry stolen by a stranger who asked for a lift to the bridge of Rijal Al-Maa in Jizan, Al-Watan daily reported yesterday. Maj. Ahmad Al-Wadainy, spokesman for Jizan police, said the man took out a knife and stabbed the driver when the pair reached Al-Kandara district. The man then stole the car and drove off.
3 Yemenis die in Jamrat fall
MAKKAH: Three Yemeni workers died and two others were seriously injured after falling off scaffolding at the Jamrat Bridge in Mina, Al-Watan newspaper reported yesterday. Their work mates tried to give them first aid before Civil Defense rescue teams arrived. The two injured men were taken to King Faisal Hospital. One of the men was treated and released and the other was kept for medical observation. The bodies are kept in the hospital’s morgue.
