DUBAI: A gang that robbed businessmen by spraying pepper in their eyes then taking away their briefcases has been arrested by Dubai police. The three-member gang was arrested after a sting operation.
According to the police report, the gang preyed on businessmen near banks and exchange houses in the Naif area. They would stake out banks or exchange houses to identify a target and then tail the victim until an opportunity arose to assault them with pepper spray and run off with their belongings. Naif is an area notorious for its narrow alleyways and old buildings.
In one of the incidents, the gang followed an accountant of a firm who had withdrawn AED210,000 from one of the exchange houses. They followed him until he reached the elevator of his office and then they sprayed him with pepper and ran away with the money. The police did not give details on how they managed to track down the gang or how they laid the trap to arrest them.
