JEDDAH: Police arrested two African thieves responsible for stealing iron and electric cables from several construction sites in the city.

The two men were arrested after police — acting on several reports of thefts from real-estate developers — formed a team of undercover officers to monitor a particular area where the thefts took place.

Soon after midnight, several trucks entered the area and parked up in different locations. Officers became suspicious, but waited for the men to make their move. A short while later the trucks left. One came back a short while later and two African nationals with wire cutters and other types of tools began cutting wires.

The police then moved in and arrested the two men, who confessed to being responsible for the spate of thefts in the area. The men said they would sell the stolen cables and iron at a scrap yard.
