Color is back and men’s fashion is following the trend. Although Arab men tend to dress in a more conservative way, especially in the colors they chose, Wayne Zeeman, spokesman for the Egyptian brand DalyDress, acknowledges that Middle Eastern men dress differently from their western counterparts but “as we get more exposure to international brands and styles, men are becoming a lot more fashionable.

All our garments are styled in Italy, but we still tailor part of our collection to the local customer. Suits are in light and metallic grey, beige, light brown and traditional dark colors, with pinstripes being the major pattern of the season,” adding that the trend for men’s formal wear for Spring/Summer 2008 allows more color as well as more retro elegance.

Interestingly enough, men throughout history have enjoyed wearing colorful clothes. According to Kean Etro, creative director of Etro Men’s, it was only after the world wars that people began to wear more subdued colors. Etro’s spring and summer collection offers printed fabric overflowing with vivid colors such as hibiscus-print trousers in linen and art-rageous paisley shirts!

Under the creative guidance of Christopher Bailey, Burberry presents bright purple ties and canary yellow shirts.

The British designer Paul Smith has included vivid colors in his latest men’s wear collection. Belts exist in bright yellow or electric blue and plaid trousers are sold in mint greens and electric blue. Smith uses color as an accessory; he compares color to a “punctuation mark” and warns that only men endowed with strong personalities can be expected to wear bold colors.

With the release of the new Indiana Jones film, fashion experts are also expecting a return to the adventurer look. The belted, four-pocket jacket was originally worn by British forces stationed in India and Africa.

Safari clothes conjure images of nature and wild animals. They’re about fleeing city life but the safari style exudes something uniquely glamorous.

“DalyDress Desert Safari line offers a new range of exciting earth colors. The cool, relaxed but comfortable clothes are ideally suited to the Middle East’s hot summer weather,” explains Wayne Zeeman.

Egyptian brands such as Concrete, BTM, and Dalydress have succeeded in producing quality clothes that are trendy and reasonably priced. They have emerged as major players in the men’s wear middle market. DalyDress will be opening 10 new stores in the next 18 months, as well as expanding into North Africa and the Gulf.
