KOCHI: SmartCity Kochi, the prestigious joint venture between Dubai’s SmartCity and the Kerala government to create an exclusive zone for knowledge-based industries, has appointed Mouchel as the infrastructure consultants. Mouchel is ranked the ‘top 20 best big company to work for’ by Sunday Times.

“Mouchel will develop and deliver advanced intricate infrastructure that will set a new benchmark for India. The state-of-the-art infrastructure that SmartCity Kochi will provide will be unique and create an ideal location where knowledge is placed at the fingertips of local, regional and international companies,” Fareed Abdulrahman, the chief executive officer (CEO) of the SmartCity and board member of SmartCity Kochi and SmartCity Malta, said.

“All the construction consultants for SmartCity’s projects will be directed to incorporate LEED(R) — the world’s premier certification program for sustainable buildings — guidelines in the design and implementation of its infrastructure,” he said.

Mouchel’s prestigious projects include Intelligent Transport Systems in UK, First Ring Road in Kuwait, Puerto Caudecedo Container Port in the Dominican Republic and Addis Ababa Ring Road in Ethiopia. For the first time an internationally known company is being engaged as infrastructure consultant in Kerala.

“Mouchel’s unique products and services such as intelligent transport systems, public transport planning, green travel plans, geotechnical engineering and utilities management will set a new benchmark in India and ensure distinctive quality to SmartCity Kochi,” a SmartCity statement said.

The statement reassured the people of the state of its long-term commitment to generate approximately 90,000 jobs. SmartCity has already started promoting Kochi as a major IT destination and a new destination for knowledge-based excellence to multinational organizations.

SmartCity is a joint venture company promoted by Dubai Holding members, TECOM Investments and SAMA Dubai, to develop and manage knowledge industry townships worldwide. SmartCity, based on the successful models of Dubai Internet City and Dubai Knowledge City, has a significant impact on the economies in which it is established and creates vibrant knowledge economy communities.

SmartCity Kochi and SmartCity Malta are the first two projects to be part of the global network that SmartCity seeks to develop.
