RIYADH: A Keralite worker who was manhandled by his superiors for protecting his co-worker from assault has been admitted to the intensive care unit at a hospital in the Riyadh Medical Complex.
The victim, Sudheesh Kalathil Parambil, a worker from the Indian state of Kerala was brought to the hospital by a group of social workers that found him in critical condition in Al-Kharj, a city 80kms from the capital.
A good Samaritan had ferried the wounded patient from Khamis Mushayt in the Kingdom’s southeast and had dropped him in the centrally located Al-Kharj, over 800km away.
Parambil was working as a manual laborer in a construction company in Khamis Mushayt at a worksite in Barak, about 150kms away. Arab News is withholding the name of the company out of legal concerns.
According to the Indian Embassy, based on reports made by co-workers, one of the men was caught taking a short break after loading a dump truck with sand.
The supervisor, an Egyptian national, began physically assaulting the workers. Parambil intervened on his colleague’s behalf.
The supervisor then turned his rage on Parambil and beat him to unconsciousness.
The Federation of Kerala Associations (FOKA) in Saudi Arabia has reportedly written a letter to the governmental Human Rights Commission and the government-approved National Human Rights Commission asking the organizations to investigate the matter and to press charges against the assaulter.
