RIYADH: The Human Rights Commission (HRC) is looking into the case of a five-year-old boy who has allegedly been abused by his mother, Al-Eqtisadiah daily reported yesterday.

Following complaints from the boy’s father that his son was being physically and psychologically abused by his mother, the HRC investigated the case, said Mefleh Al-Qahtani, vice president of the HRC. He said the child had testified to the police that his mother used to insult him, burn his body and lock him in a dark room.

The boy’s father, who had access to see him once a week, said his son refused to return to his mother after spending a day with him recently. “I felt sorry for him, especially on account of the abuse he suffers at his mother’s house, and so decided to keep him with me.”

When the boy failed to come back, the mother reported it to the police, who in turn asked the man to bring the child for questioning. The child told the police that he did not want to stay with his mother, as she has been torturing him. Officers allowed the father to keep the boy until a court decides on the case.
