JEDDAH: A group of 10 Saudi friends on holiday in Jordan were attacked and robbed by armed gunmen recently, Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday.
Falah Al-Sadoun, one of the victims, said his group was attacked around dawn on Aug. 3 in the Al-Dharwa area near the Jordanian-Saudi border.
“We were woken up by the sound of gunshots. A group of armed men took us from the place where we had camped,” he said, adding that the men then stole their money and goods worth over SR30,000, which included credit cards, GPS satellite navigation systems and cell phones.
“They then shot at our vehicles and damaged the tires and windows to ensure we wouldn’t immediately leave the area to report the incident,” said Al-Sadoun, adding that the group managed to reach a village and report the robbery to the Jordanian police.
“Although Jordanian police have launched an investigation, they’ve still not arrested the culprits ... We also reported the incident to the Saudi Embassy in Amman. The officials gave us some cash and facilitated our return to the Kingdom,” Al-Sadoun added.
