SANAA: Yemen has extradited eight Saudi nationals to the Kingdom wanted over criminal charges, Yemeni official sources said on Wednesday.
Police officials told Arab News the men detained in Yemen earlier this year were handed over to the Saudi authorities on Tuesday.
The extradition of the suspects comes a week after Yemeni police uncovered alleged plots by Al-Qaeda to carry out terror attacks in Yemen and the Kingdom. The eight men were “wanted by Saudi authorities on security-related charges,” said the 26 September newspaper, the Defense Ministry’s mouthpiece.
“The handover of the suspects took place in line with cooperation between the two brotherly countriesw and under the security cooperation agreement,” the paper quoted an unnamed security source as saying.
This is the latest extradition of suspects between Yemen and Saudi Arabia under an extradition agreement signed in 2003.
Last week, Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh said police had unearthed plots by Al-Qaeda to strike targets inside the country and in Saudi Arabia.
Documents and blueprints for the plans were reportedly found after police raided an Al-Qaeda hide-out in southeastern Yemen on Aug. 12.
Police killed five suspected members of Al-Qaeda in the raid in Tarim town of Hadhramout province.
