TABUK: In an incident befitting a wacky scene in an old Egyptian comedy film, the mothers of a couple getting married had a knock-down-drag-out fight right during the ceremonies honoring that special day of union. According to yesterday’s Al-Madinah newspaper, the tussle began when the family of the bride played a popular Egyptian song whose lyrics implore, “Pay us the money you owe us,” a reference perhaps to some financial obligations on the part of the groom. An argument erupted and then the mothers-in-law went at it. According to the newspaper report, the bride got involved and struck her hubbie’s mama with a chair. Unlike an old Egyptian comedy, this point of drama didn’t end happily; the groom was so angry that his new wife would assault his dear mother he ended the marriage right then and there.
