MUMBAI: The Thane police have arrested a married Hindu from Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh for posting a message on the social networking website Orkut threatening to eliminate Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray.
The accused Adarsh Sinha impersonating as a Muslim youth Fazal Farooqui was on Saturday produced before a magistrate who remanded him to police custody till Aug. 29.
On Aug. 5, a message was posted on the Orkut website threatening to eliminate Thackeray. Two Web pages “Anti-Shiv Sena” and “Shiv Sena Shocks” were uploaded on Orkut and a cross was marked on the picture of Thackeray. A complaint was then lodged with the police by the Thane local unit president of the Sena.
During the course of investigations, it was revealed that Adarsh Sinha had set up a user ID on Orkut under the name of Fazal Farooqui of Lucknow and was issuing threats to Thackeray on the website.
According to Prashant Burde, assistant commissioner of police of the Thane crime branch, on interrogation Sinha disclosed that by using a Muslim name, he also became a member of the anti-Hindu community on the Orkut website. Burde said that the other accomplices of the accused, who too had posted such threatening messages to Thackeray, would also be arrested soon.
Sinha is a resident of Delhi and is an electrical engineer by profession. His wife is a teacher in a reputed school and he has a five-year-old son, said Burde. Asked about the reason of Sinha giving such a threat to Thackeray, Burde said that this will be only known once the accused is grilled thoroughly.
