ISLAMABAD: At least six people were killed and eight injured yesterday as a suspected US missile strike targeted a militant hideout in Pakistan’s tribal region along the Afghan border, officials said.
A single missile hit a house in Tapi village, some 15 km east of Miranshah, the main town in the district of North Waziristan, said a local security official.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said six people, including two women, died in the attack. A US drone was seen flying in the area after the explosion.
The house, which was completely demolished by the strike, belonged to Raees Khan, a member of the local Taleban organization and a suspected facilitator of Al-Qaeda operatives.
“According to initial reports at least two foreign militants are among the dead,” the security official said. Eight more people were injured in the blast.
