JEDDAH: The fourth meeting of the founders of Prince Salman Association for Disability Research will be held here tomorrow. The association runs Prince Salman Center for Disability Research.
The meeting, to be held under the aegis of Crown Prince Sultan, will be the association’s first general assembly meeting. It will be held at the home of Abdul Maqsud Khoja, a founding member of the association.
Also in attendance will be the association’s founder Riyadh Gov. Prince Salman, Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal and Prince Sultan bin Salman, the chairman of the association’s board of directors. The meeting will discuss the association’s future strategy and its budget. Concurrently, a number of important agreements will be signed and initiatives in the realm of disability research will be launched.
The center, being run by the association, is currently working on developing and modernizing its programs and activities to cope with recent scientific developments concerning disabilities. It is also planning to expand its activities to help every disabled person in the Kingdom.
The general assembly will elect the members and chairman of the association’s board of directors.
Meanwhile, Prince Sultan bin Salman is to hold a press conference tonight at the Meridien Hotel in Jeddah. A number of agreements are to be signed at the event, including two agreements with Harvard University relating to hereditary deafness in Saudi Arabia, the causes of multigenetic diseases, providing Saudi cadre with technical training, and discovering genes that cause autism.
Other agreements include one with the Swiss Bank for stem cells for disability research, an agreement with the international Stanford medical centers in the US on establishing a service network to provide medical services to the disabled in improving their lives, an agreement with the medical center at Erasmus University in Rotterdam (Holland) to monitor children’s growth phases, an agreement with Shelly Institute at California University to treat eye injuries, an agreement with the Kuwaiti center for the education and evaluation of children to Arabize skill tests, and an agreement with the King Saud University to make the university disabled-friendly.
The Prince Salman Center for Disability Research was established 15 years ago. It has secured its place among the leading centers of its kind in the world. The center has conducted a number of important researches and studies about disability.
