MUMBAI: The Maharashtra police has beefed up personal security of Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Deputy Chief Minister R.R. Patil, who is also the home minister following a threat to their lives through an e-mail sent to several television channels by terror outfit Indian Mujahedeen on Saturday evening.
The terror e-mail said “The Indian Mujahedeen, claims responsibility for the Delhi blasts. Our next target is Mumbai. Let the Indian Mujahedeen warn all the people of Mumbai that whatever deadly attacks you will face in future, the only responsible elements for it will be the Mumbai Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and their guardians: Vilasrao Deshmukh and R.R. Patil. You are already on our hit list and this time very very seriously.” Parambir Singh, the additional commissioner of police, ATS, yesterday confirmed receiving a copy of the 14-page threat e-mail of IM, which apart from being critical of other things, particularly targets ATS for working against the IM and states that the ATS was responsible for the torture and harassment of Muslims in Andheri in recent combing operations.
The ATS officials said that the e-mail was hacked and was sent by the terrorists through Wi-Fi Internet connection of a company in the Chembur suburb.
The ATS on Sunday night traced the terror mail to the IP address of a firm, Kamran Power Control Pvt. Ltd., at 201-202 Eric House, 16th Road, Chembur. Service provider Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) was used for sending the mail.
