ISLAMABAD: Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani yesterday said that Pakistan was committed to the political, moral and diplomatic support to the people of Kashmir in their struggle for right of self-determination.
He expressed the confidence that the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) will continue to lend its valuable support for the Kashmir cause. Gilani was briefing reporters after his talks with Ezzat Kamel Mufti, special representative of the OIC secretary-general on Kashmir.
He said the special representative’s report will be very helpful for the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir which was to meet in New York later this month during the 63rd session of UN General Assembly.
Mufti, who is on a two-day visit to Muzaffarabad and Islamabad, earlier called on Foreign Minister Makhdoum Shah Mahmoud Qureshi. The foreign minister and Mufti exchanged views on recent developments in Kashmir. The foreign minister stated that the situation in Indian Kashmir is of great concern.
Mufti reiterated OIC’s support to the just cause of the Kashmiri people as well as the peace process between Pakistan and India. He appreciated the confidence-building measures between the two countries in an effort to alleviate sufferings of the Kashmiri people.
