JEDDAH: The board of trustees of the Saudi Research and Publishing Company (SRPC) has unanimously elected Dr. Muhammad Abdo Yamani as its chairman and Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Shibaili vice chairman.
The election took place during the first meeting of the board in Jeddah last week, which was attended by Prince Faisal bin Salman, chairman of the Saudi Research & Marketing Group (SRMG).
The meeting listened to an elaborate explanation of the basic statute of the board, its tasks and responsibilities. The members of the board then met with the editors in chief of SRPC publications and their deputies during which the editors spoke candidly and gave their views and suggestions.
The meeting of the board of trustees was attended by: Dr. Muhammad Abdo Yamani, Dr. Abdul Rahman Al-Shibaili, Dr. Muhammad Al-Hilwa, Dr. Fahd Al-Sammari and Dr. Hamza Baitul Maal. The CEO of the Group, Dr. Azzam M. Al-Dakhil, also attended the meeting.
The creation of a board of trustees for the SRPC, which is a member of the SRMG, represents a qualitative leap for the Arab media industry. It also represents a new era in media work where market forces and business considerations will not dominate editorial policies and aspirations.
“The board will evaluate the editorial performance of all SRPC publications, the output of the editors in chiefs and their commitment to the editorial policy of the company,” an official statement said.
