RAMALLAH: Chief Palestinian negotiator Ahmed Qorei said “the Palestinian Authority (PA) will not sign any agreement with Israel that does not include the issue of Jerusalem,” a report said yesterday.
Palestinian independent news agency Ma’an quoted Qorei as saying during a meeting with the leader of the Islamic Movement in northern Israel, Sheikh Ra’ed Salah, that the Palestinian people would reject any move to harm their holy places and create situation to influence negotiations on a final status agreement.
Salah provided Qorei with a number of Israeli documents and maps that contained proof of Israel’s plans to establish synagogues along the perimeter of the Al Buraq Wall.
Qorei told Salah that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert has sought to postpone discussion over Jerusalem, one of the core issues in the ongoing peace talks with the PA.
Salah expressed his support of the Palestinian leadership’s actions concerning Jerusalem. He called for an end to the internal Palestinian conflict between Hamas and Fatah, saying that unity was needed “to overcome the challenges and dangers threatening the Al-Aqsa Mosque.”
Several rounds of talks between the Palestinian and Israeli teams have taken place since the peace conference held in Annapolis last November.
