MANAMA: The sale of the $2.2 billion, 4,000-unit Durrat Marina, will kick off in the first quarter of 2009. The project, an integral part of the $6 billion Durrat Al-Bahrain to be completed in six years.

Othman Janahi, chief investment officer of Marina Durrat Al-Bahrain Company, said his company has chosen an “international” consulting firm and that the company will be named soon. “We have selected an international company to take care of this, one of the world’s leading housing projects,” he said.

The 600,000 sq. meter Durrat Marina Al-Bahrain will be a multi-service marina and residential complex, which will accommodate up to 400 luxury yachts.

The marina would be located within the seaside resort of the renowned Durrat Al-Bahrain, an astonishing constellation of man-made islands, with high-end beach-front residences, villas, a golf course, a five-star hotel on the mainland and connected by a network of adjoining bridges.

Company officials expect to attract tourists, real-estate developers and sailing enthusiasts from across the globe. The project includes restaurants, retail galleries, waterfront cafes, luxury resorts and promenades.
