AL-JOUF: The summary court in Al-Jouf sentenced a young Saudi to 10 years in prison, including one year in a rehab center, after he was found guilty of mistreating his father.
Sheikh Saad bin Latif Al-Anzi, the presiding judge, said the young man tried to assault his father on numerous occasions and damaged his property. The father said the youth damaged a number of his cars and made the family’s life horrible. “He is my eldest son. I am very sad that he acts like this with us,” the father said.
The judge gave the man the right to rescind the verdict and release his son from prison if the authorities at the rehab center were convinced that the youth’s behavior improved after spending one year in the hospital.
“I found out that my son was a drug addict. He has been extorting money from members of the family to buy drugs,” he said.
