MANAMA: Bahrain authorities have busted a major racket, seizing drugs worth SR1,640,000 smuggled from Iran. Eight suspects have been arrested and they have allegedly confessed to their crimes.
"We were tipped off about some people smuggling hashish from Iran. Some suspects were arrested after warrants were issued by the public prosecutor," the General Director of Crime Detection and Forensic Science at the Ministry of Interior said.
Police seized 75 kg of hashish packed in cosmetic products.
"Two of the suspects also confessed to smuggling 160 kg of hashish from Iran and handing it to another person. We are still on the look out for more suspects which would lead to a big catch," the general director said.
Last year, Coast Guard authorities announced that they regularly arrested big consignment of drugs brought into the country from the northern side.
